Abstract Wire Daschund
January 2010
Sterling silver
I was asked by a customer to come up with a design based on a Wire Daschund, and the instruction stopped there. Given that I had a lot of leeway, I decided to experiment with designs that represented the breed with as few lines as possible. The result is this Picasso-like sidelong-glancing dog head, which I hammered very lightly so that the wire would have an organic hand-worked feel after polishing. The abstraction of the three lines that make up the pendant created a very open design, so I simply tied the chain in a lark's knot around the top of the piece instead of soldering on a traditional bail. Also, the physical pun of making a Wire Daschund out of wire wasn't intentional... but it sure is funny.
