"Stripped"
1994
Steel, soapstone, wood
This sculpture is kind of a self-portraitin that angst-ridden 22-year-old sort of way. The entire piece evolved from the forehead/nose plate, which was a simplistic way to represent a face that I borrowed from some artist at a crafts fair in Honolulu. In the view of the
back, note how the seams of the non-existant skull plates are represented by steel wire. The jaw of the piece is supported by the tongue, which is welded to the rod that supports the brain.
