Moshe Star
April 2002
Sterling silver
Made for a friend's brother on the occasion of his
bar mitzvah. His Hebrew name is (or so I thought it was at the time)
משה Moshe. Since the first letter,
מ (
mem) is basically a triangle and the second letter,
ש (
shin) is basically an
inverted triangle, they overlay perfectly as a Star of David. The final letter
ה (
hey) was then placed in the space in the middle. The result is that his name is not read right to left as is traditional, but front to back. If you look at it from the
back, you'll see that the top of the middle branch of the
shin is designed to have exactly the same shape and placement as the little doohickey at the top left of the
mem, so that from the front it doesn't stick out but from the back it's consistent with the rest of the
shin.
