Czech Glass Ikura Pendant
July 2006
Black enameled sterling silver mesh, sterling wire, Czech glass beads
A jeweler of my acquaintance once challenged me to come up with a design inspired by sushi, of which we are both passionate consumers. I instantly came up with two designs in my head, one of which you see to the left. This pendant leaves little to the imagination of the sushi-lover, as it looks virtually exactly like
ikura nigiri, or salmon roe sushi.
The salmon roe is represented here by orange Czech glass beads, and the
nori (seaweed) is done with black-enameled sterling silver mesh tubing that's been doubled back on itself a half dozen times.
