When I was in high school and much more into martial arts weaponry than I am now, I was obsessed with the idea of folding steel fans. None of the martial arts supply stores that I had access to carried them, so I made this version out of brass and leather. Each slat is a foot long, and the fan opens to a full 22½ inch span.
